The Flying Pig - Gastown
I haven't used my dslr in months. Months!! Yesterday was the first time I took it out for a food outing since December! My poor nikon's been starving for months ;)
The entire time I was travelling I was using my tiny Sony A5000 (it doubles as a selfie camera hehe!) I hate having to lug around my chunky dslr, but the picture quality it yields is totally worth the back pain...so I endure, for the sake of this blog LOL. I always feel incredibly awkward taking photos with a dslr in restaurants...maybe because I'm already an awkward person to begin with (you'll know what I mean if you've met me in person) and it just makes me THAT much more awkward...especially when I have to use flash, because then the whole room notices... *hides face*
Everything on their menu sounded SO good (don't I say that about everything?!) especially their baked 4 cheese gnocchi, bone marrow cheesy bread and braised beef short rib macaroni
but in the end...I went with something healthy and cheese free, since I've been trying to avoid cheese lately because of my skin...ugh, why must I be so allergy prone?!!
I'm not severely allergic to cheese but it makes my eczema flare up so I try to avoid it when possible. (Too much info?) ;)
(Click to Enlarge) OMG...they even have bone marrow cheesy bread!! :D
The drink list! :D
Blackened Steelhead Trout $15.50
Cous Cous Salad a la greque, avocado salsa
3.5/5 stars
So this counts as clean eating right? heheh. This is probably the healthiest thing I've eaten in weeks lol! But it was really yummy! The portion size was actually quite large, with a large piece of trout and generous amounts of salad. I loved all the contrasting textures in the salad from the cous cous, cucumbers, tomatoes, and chickpeas! The la greque dressing was refreshing and really flavourful with a touch of tanginess from the lemon, and flavour from the sage and thyme.
The trout itself was pretty thick, tender on the inside, slightly charred on the outside with a bit of smokiness.
The avocado salsa was delish! Tangy, and fresh tasting, it paired really well with the salmon!
Complimentary Bread
3.5/5 stars
Yayy for complimentary bread hehe! It totally made my day ;)
The bread was served warm, crunchy on the outside, soft and doughy on the inside! Just how I like it!
Olive Oil & Balsamic Bread Dip
3/5 stars
The bread also come with a olive oil & balsamic dip, which I enjoyed, even though I'm not a huge fan of vinegar haha...the sourness hurts the back of my throat!
